  • At this stage, Northern Stars Volleyball Club doesn’t hold ‘traditional’ trials. Instead, we focus on player development and use our off-season and pre-season sessions to get to know our athletes and form teams accordingly.

If you’re interested in joining a team, we encourage you to explore the information here.

  • Fees vary each season, but here are a few key costs to keep in mind:

    1. VWA Platinum Membership – Required to play in WAVL/WAVJL. • $110 for adults • $90 for players under 19

    2. Trial Registration Fee – A one-time payment to participate in team trials.

    3. Season Fees – Covers training sessions and game participation. Payment plans are available.

    4. Club Uniform – All players are required to purchase the official playing kit.

    5. (Optional) Referee Course – For those interested in becoming accredited referees.

You'll receive a full breakdown once teams are finalised.

  • Training will be once a week for WAVJL, and up to twice a week for WAVL.

Training days, times, and venues vary between teams and can differ depending on availability. You will be contacted with your specific training details once they are confirmed, usually during off-season. Please note that training schedules are not the same for every team.

  • WAVJL games are played on Friday nights in Terms 2 & 3. There are no games during school holidays.

The WAVL season typically runs from April to September. WAVL games are mostly played on Sundays at various time slots from 8am to 6pm. Games also run through school holidays. Due to byes, rescheduling, or league-wide free weekends, teams may occasionally be required to play two matches in one weekend, including Friday evenings or Saturdays.

Games are held at a wide variety of locations throughout the Perth Metro area. WAVJL are advised that they may be scheduled to play at Mandurah Baptist College once per season. While WAVL primarily uses Loftus Recreational Centre, Kingsway Stadium, Warwick Stadium and Cockburn ARC, and other venues are be used throughout the season. Occasionally, depending on the league or team, travel to Mandurah, Bunbury, or Busselton may be required.

  • WA Volleyball League (WAVL) WAVL includes both State League and Divisions and is an open-age competition where teams are graded based on skill level. Games are generally held on Sundays across various Perth metro venues, with occasional travel to regional locations such as Mandurah, Bunbury, or Busselton. The season runs through the school holidays.

This league is best suited for adult players of all skill levels and advanced junior athletes (recommended for those 16 years and older).

WA Volleyball Junior League (WAVJL) WAVJL is a junior-only competition played on Friday nights during Terms 2 and 3. Teams are grouped based on school year levels: Year 7/8, Year 9/10, and Year 11/12. Games are played at various venues across the Perth metropolitan area, with the possibility of occasional matches scheduled in Mandurah.

  • WAVL is typically geared towards adults and advanced junior athletes. In previous years, some of our younger state junior players have participated in the lower divisions of WAVL or continued in WAVJL, while several of our older state players (U16, U17, and U18) have competed in State League, Reserves and higher division teams.

Choosing between WAVJL and WAVL depends on your child’s goals. WAVL is more competition-focused, so court time may not always be guaranteed or evenly distributed. In contrast, WAVJL places a stronger emphasis on ensuring players get experience on court.

If you’re unsure which league is the right fit for your child, we recommend checking out our YouTube channel, where you'll find footage from our WAVL teams throughout the season. It’s a helpful way to see the level of competition and what to expect in WAVL.

  • Players are welcome to take part in both competitions; however, there may be times when a WAVL training session clashes with a WAVJL game/training.

Please note that we’re unable to adjust training schedules on an individual basis, so full fees for both teams will still apply, regardless of how many sessions a player is able to attend.
